Abigail Schade Gary is a writer who loves words for the images they conjure and the impact they can have. She found her voice at an early age and has explored the frontier of creative expression for many years. In addition to marketing and promotional writing, she has specialized in writing about local places, religion, pets, and parenting, as well as personal essays. Abigail Gary began writing at an early age and hasn’t stopped yet, although she did figure out how to start getting paid for it.
A native of Pittsburgh, PA, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in art history. After a four-year stint as a researcher at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she moved to New York City and began to work as an advertising copywriter for several large agencies, as well as New York University, McGraw-Hill, and Barnard College.
She and her husband, Paul Gary, founded The Parent Paper, a monthly parenting publication in northern New Jersey. After four years under her editorship, The Parent Paper was awarded Best Overall from Parenting Publications of America (PPA). She subsequently served as editor of All Our Children, a parenting publication of the Jewish Standard.
She was also Senior Copywriter at Words and Pictures Creative Service in Park Ridge, NJ, for 10 years, writing promotional copy for Sony Professional, BMW Financial Services, Kramer Electronics, Wyndham Hotels, and KPMG. As a freelancer, she has written for The New York Times, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Self, New Jersey Monthly, and many other publications. Along the way, she mothered three sons, three greyhounds, four Siamese cats, and an Aussie-doodle (fortunately, not all at once).
